Is College Degree Worth Money Investments

27
Apr

No issue is more disturbing and debatable for those concerned with college education than the issue of real value of college degrees. The tendency towards escalating cost of tuition fees made many people wonder whether a genuine payoff and opportunities college degree can offer to a graduator, in the long run, worth a high-priced investment.

This problem became especially acute for low-income parents, because the majority of them can’t afford to take an additional burden for paying such a fabulous sum of money for education of their kid. Annual tuition fees in different colleges range in average from $12,000 to $25,000.

Undoubtedly, such numbers provoke many people to think it over and weigh all arguments for and against college education.

Considerable rise of college charge caused a reappraisal of real value of higher education, in general, and college degree, in particular. A college degree, which can be interpreted as an official recognition for the successful completion of a vocational or an academic program, is now called into question. Many high-school graduators prefer well-paid employment to spending 4-6 years in college to earn a piece of paper which doesn’t even earn them squat back.

Though, money is not the only sticking point on a way to higher education, perspectives and vision of the future can’t be underestimated in the ultimate choice of a person, who foresees the necessity of obtaining college degree for success, regarding it as a necessary component of success formula in life; for prestige, considering a college degree to be a valuable and expensive contribution to his collection of achievements; or for money making, viewing it as an additional plus while getting fixed up in a job.

From my perspective, there are obverse and reverse of this issue. On the one hand, college degree is not a guarantee of anything, nor is it a factor of success in life. Timing and luck play a big part, as do personality, perseverance, confidence and native intelligence.

There are many people who succeeded in life without being college educated and having a certificate of their intelligence. History knows many that sort of examples, it is enough just to mention such celebrated minds as Ted Turner and Mark Twain, who weren’t tainted with the influence of college education. It proves that skills and inborn intelligence help much better in specific areas and often trump degrees.

On the other hand, a college graduator has a wider range of opportunities, can choose a high-paid job in his specific field easier than his counterpart - high-school leaver and also can expect to have higher income in future. “According to the Census Bureau, over an adult’s working life, high school graduates earn an average of $1.2 million; associate’s degree holders earn about $1.6 million; and bachelor’s degree holders earn about $2.1 million.” Overall, those with degrees tend to fare better than those who don’t have them.

So, I can only add that future college applicants and their parents have to speculate on this question very carefully, because a decision to enter a college and obtain baccalaureate degree are one of the most important choices a person has to face in life.

Remember that a real importance, a genuine price and benefits you can get from a college degree in long-term outlook can be defined only by you.

Don’t Need a Fake College Degree

How does and underachiever become an achiever overnight? Well, fake educational documents of course! I definitely don’t recommend anyone get a fake college degree in order to fast track their career, but I’ve certainly seen a lot of it around over the years and that’s not just degrees either. Licenses of various kinds, specific educational certificates at various levels, press passes, in fact you name it I’ve probably seen it, but quite often using fake documents ends in tears.

The opening healine was not meant to patronize anyone who has little or no schooling accomplishment. In actual fact, some of the most successful people I know have excelled in life with a very poor educational background. I was simply using the line to emphasize the point about phony papers and fake college degrees.

The streets of Bangkok, Thailand, and other South East Asian countries are infamous for knocking up fake college degrees, teaching certificates, international student identity cards and the like. What’s more, is that many folks get away with using these papers without ever getting exposed, but then there are others who do get caught, and the consequences can be quite severe, depending where it is you get caught and what purposes you were using the forged papers for.

It’s all very well getting qualified as a doctor for a $100 bucks, but if you don’t know the difference between a headache and a hysterectomy, then you really are playing with fire. But it’s understandable why fake college degrees are tempting to those that never got the chance to get educated through circumstances beyond their control, but believe me, education is no longer just for the youth or privileged of society.

In fact, my grandmother got a bachelors degree at Cambridge University at the ripe old age of 82 years old. No, she wasn’t about to launch a new career, but she came from a generation where a woman’s place was in the home, chained to the kitchen sink as it were, but she just wanted to prove to herself and the world that she wasn’t stupid.

Educational documents don’t prove that someone is necessarily smarter than someone without them, or that they are going to be more competent in a particular role, but what they do provide to employers are indicators. They indicate that the person with them has a definite academic level of achievement and an ability to learn new things, and although the uneducated one might even be better suited for the position, he has no papers to back up his claims, so it’s a guessing game most employers don’t play.

You might be able to hop online and find out how to obtain a fake college degree with ease, but just remember, you have to live with a lie. You could also get caught out! But all that aside, a fake college degree in business management doesn’t make you a business manager, just as a fake pilot’s license won’t have you flying folks across the Atlantic as a captain.

There really is no substitute for the real McCoy, and with so many fulltime, part time, online and offline educational options around these days, there’s no excuse why any average person should not be able to get properly educated if they so wish.

There are many people today from all walks of life who are getting an online college degree from home. Dollar for dollar, an online college degree or post graduate work pays off.

The quickest way to give yourself a raise is to receive your certification in an area in which you are all ready working. Examples where board certification is pertinent include technical and vocational fields to name a few.

Sometimes an online college degree is very necessary in these instances. In some cases you have previously learned the information required of you for these various certifications, but will need the necessary degree in order to advance in your particular field.

So, let’s discuss possible uses of a college degree via distance education. Many who are presently working in technical and vocational fields enroll in online courses to restructure and enhance their careers, and receive additional certification status.

Examples of this occur on an on-going basis. A thirty year old immigrant from South America began working as a nurse’s aid, and is presently in her second semester of training from home at an online college.

A 50 year old white male enrolled in an online technical college to study electronics when the factory in which he had worked moved to Mexico early last year.

During a downsizing exercise at a psychiatric facility in Missouri, an education staff member returned to an online virtual classroom to gain continuing units of education, and add a minor to her present degree.

Thus, you can see with the use of those brief examples that continuing education can be useful as well as critical to your intellectual growth base.

An online college degree is more important than ever for several reasons.

1. Employers feel that we are presently in an employer’s market. This means that they can be more selective in individuals they hire.

2. Jobs that glean more pay are more specialized. Specialized jobs require more training/education. This is true because these jobs require the manipulation of facts, figures, and/or technology which is often times sensitive, adaptive, or computerized.

3. Our current jobs in the U.S. are becoming more and more service oriented. These jobs have relatively low pay and our labeled unskilled work. Thus, one must retool to prepare his or her self to obtain a job requiring more skill and offering more pay.

4. Finally, we have entered a global economy. Such an economy demands higher prices for homes and automobiles without providing numerous gainful employment opportunities.

How do you know if an online college degree is for you? First, if you lack a high school diploma, a college degree is a must.
High school non-graduates make 25% less than starting salary employees with a high school education.

Secondly, you may presently hold a position that would pay you more if you held a degree from an online technical school or online community college. You may know this information from coworkers or acquaintances in your line of work.

Thirdly, if you are considered a non-traditional student. Financial incentives are available to attract such students. So if you could be described as a non-traditional or a minority student, smaller financial payout is a good incentive to continue your education.

Check out an online college degree portal and invest in your future. Give yourself a raise.
